CTU Enthusiastic Partner in Skills Campaign
“The CTU is an enthusiastic partner in the “Skill New Zealand” campaign with the Government and Business New Zealand,”
Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson said today.
Ross Wilson will join Steve Maharey and Business N Z CEO Simon Carlaw at Windsor Engineering today for the announcement
of the Government’s industry training package.
The package includes a joint campaign promoting the benefits of workplace learning to employers and workers.
“The CTU is making this commitment because it is vital to the future of our country to ensure that we work together, on
a tripartite basis, to build the educational and skill base for a higher skill, higher value, and higher wage economy,”
Ross Wilson said.
“The CTU vision is that lifelong learning will be a reality for all. Workers’ employability increasingly relies on
investment in skill development.”
Ross Wilson said the increased funding package of $85 million, boosting workers in training to 250,000 by 2007 was great
news for workers. “This sort of social investment in people is a welcome recognition that workers are seen as an asset
rather than a cost.”
