Mind Control - By Who's Edict?
"Act MP Deborah Coddington's assertions on Trevor Mallard's cynical attempts to spend another $167 million more of stolen tax money on a patch up job is spot on. But her own ideas on what constitutes a decent education system are ill-conceived and smack of yet another politician using force to formulate her own grand ideas , and other peoples money to pay for them." This was from Peter Osborne, Libertarianz Spokesman for Education Deregulation today.
Osborne was responding to Coddington's comments recommending that New Zealand follow the education systems of Denmark, Sweden and The Netherlands. He says, "While these systems are a vast improvement on New Zealand's educational standards, they are still sluggards; they are still tools of the State; they still rely on the use of force; and they still rely on stolen tax money to survive." Osborne continues, "This is yet another example of ACT's penchant for compulsion. Don't forget that it was Ms Coddingtons predecessor, Donna Awatere Huata, who pushed a bill calling for the imprisonment of parents of repeat truants."
Osborne says, "Ms Coddington has stated that 'We must improve choice for parents', but ultimately she really means that choice must only be granted to a level of Ms Coddington's own liking. Control of education, in Coddington's view, should remain in the hands of the State."
Mr Osborne concludes, "We have before us the full spectrum of political ideology. On the left we have Labour's complete control and manipulation of New Zealand's young minds; on the right we have Coddington's Conundrum - the ACT Party unprepared to ever relinquish that control in toto. Libertarianz are the only political party in New Zealand who will gladly relinquish any form of control away from the State. Children's education will never prosper while individual freedom is handicapped by the varying degrees advocated by Mallard and Coddington. Total educational freedom in the free market will allow each individual to reclaim his or her life. Anything less will further encourage our current disastrous model of high truancy, low numeracy, low literacy, high youth suicide, low teacher morale and the complete loss of parental decision making."
