The Government has failed consumers on its promise
The Government has failed consumers on its promise to deliver on the Royal Commission's proposal for a standardised GM-Free label.
The proposal from the Commission that government should assist the setting up of GM-free labels for the consumer has stalled, despite months of meetings with industry, Ministers, the Consumer's Institute and other consumer organisations
"There is still no GM-free labelling system. That is what consumers want to know," says Jon Carapiet from GE-Free NZ in food and environment.
"However thousands of New Zealanders will be taking part in peaceful protests in most parts of the country to mark International Consumers Day" says Mr Carapiet.
"It is happening already whenever people grocery-shop. Even without labels people are trying to find brands they can trust in their kitchen to be GE-free."
