Prime Minister's Union Forum Gives Workers a Say
“Giving workers a chance to have a direct dialogue with the Prime Minister and senior Ministers is an important feature
of the social partnership relationship between the Clark Government and the Council of Trade Unions,” CTU president Ross
Wilson said today.
Helen Clark will attend the first regional CTU-Government Forum in Palmerston North today. “It is undoubtedly true that
the Government can’t achieve its policy objectives unless it takes people along with it,” Ross Wilson said.
Ross wilson said the forum would provide and excellent opportunity for union members from the Manawatu to have their
say.
“It will also provide valuable feedback to the Prime Minister on a range of important issues, including economic growth,
employment relations, quality public services, and education and training,” he said.
“It is an important recognition that democracy is alive and well in New Zealand when the Prime Minister takes the time
to sit down and talk with working people on the issues of the day.”
The Manawatu regional forum is the first of many joint CTU-Government forums which will be held around New Zealand.
