Freedom in Life - and in Death
"New Zealand First MP Peter Brown gets our full support for his private members 'Death with Dignity' bill. We need to go further though." Said Peter Osborne, the Libertarianz Deputy Leader. "This issue should not even be up for debate in parliament. How a person wishes to end their own life is not an issue for politicians to decide."
Osborne says, "Each individual has every right to die as they wish; with dignity. As far as we are concerned no one has the right to withhold this basic freedom, no matter if one thinks one is holding some moral high ground. Each person is free to live by their own standard but no one has the right to force their view on another. This basic freedom is especially sacrosanct against the debates of bureaucrats and politicians who have repeatedly shown that their desire to control overrides any need to promote justice and freedom."
"It is criminal and uncivilized that people face imprisonment by law, as is the case for Lesley Martin for helping those who wish to euthenase. This must be an extremely difficult thing to do yet the state is prepared to turn around and brand these people criminals for their bravery and compassion. It's a disgrace."
Mr Osborne concludes, "When we finally realize a libertarian society, a basic right such as this will be entered into a constitution. There to remain out of reach of little men and women who lack the moral stamina to allow other people to live moral lives. Away with them, we say and let people live and die as they see fit.
