GPJA Seeks Donations For Advert

Published: Wed 19 Feb 2003 11:51 AM
Dear Peace supporters,
Thanks to you I have now collected just over $3,000 in donations and pledges towards the cost of putting the Ad in the paper. The cost will be $4,500 so just $1,500 to go. I feel the timing would be perfect to get it into the papers NOW - following the wonderful global peace rallies that, according to
some reports, appear to have given the US and UK governments pause for thought about bullying the UN into supporting their invasion of Iraq.
At the end of the day Maggie and I are willing to add to our contribution and take the financial risk of putting it in before the full cost is recovered but, understandably, it would help us sleep at night if we didn't have to!
So, if there is ANYONE else you can think of that you could encourage to support this campaign with a bit of dosh we would really appreciate it. I've attached the final version of the ad as a word document so its easy to open, print off and send around.
My plan is to put it into the next edition of the Sunday Star Times along with a letter to the editor explaining its origins and purpose. The reasons for choosing this paper are 1) its a national newspaper 2) the cost is the same as the Herald 3) circulation is similar to the Herald 4) the next edition marks the re-launch of this paper with a different format and some pre-marketing which, I hope, will push up the number of sales.
I will have to book the Ad by Thursday AM at the latest so I have only 2 days to raise the rest. Any and all help much appreciated.
Contributions can be sent to me at P.O. Box 78-443, Grey Lynn, Auckland and cheques should be made out to "Peace Campaign". Please e-mail at mailto: mailto:zoovet@xtra.co.nz to let me know how much you're sending.
Yours for Peace
Richard
