Alliance says people will lead if Clark doesn’t
Alliance Leader, Laila Harré told a Peace Concert in Auckland today that if Blair and Howard were playing America’s poodles over Iraq Prime Minister Helen Clark was taking the part of the sheep.
“She has said she will not criticise a US-led invasion of Iraq, and will unquestioningly join it if it has the endorsement of the UN Security Council” said Laila Harré.
“In the absence of leadership from the Government it is up to the people to lead” said Laila Harré.
“All over the world this weekend millions of people have marched for peace against the mindless aggression of the Bush/Blair coalition.”
“These people have learnt the lesson of the 20th Century that war will not bring peace, nor rid the world of terror, nor bring a better world.”
Ms Harré was very critical of the Prim Minister’s reported comments that yesterday’s marches were “relatively small”.
“This is the clearest indication we have that she is trying to discredit the peace movement in the event of war.”
