Building Industry Taskforce Meets
The Building Industry Taskforce announced its intention to lead the industry’s response to resolving the leaking building problems at its inaugural meeting last week.
The formation of the taskforce was one of the recommendations of the Building Industry Summit held in October.
Taskforce spokesperson John Pfahlert said that, in its role as industry leader, the taskforce would be responsible for developing and overseeing a programme of work that would ensure the Hunn Report recommendations relating to the general industry are implemented.
The taskforce would also be responsible for implementing the recommendations proposed at the Summit that would improve the performance of the sector in the future.
As a result of this work, the taskforce would recommend to government any legislative or regulatory changes that are considered appropriate, said John Pfahlert.
“A cohesive, cross-sector plan of action is essential if we are to address the many contributing factors to the problem. The twelve-member taskforce is drawn from a range of industry and stakeholder groups and will act as a co-ordinating body for the building industry.”
The taskforce members represent the Building Industry Authority, Department of Internal Affairs, Branz, Building Officials Institute of New Zealand, Consumers’ Institute, New Zealand Construction Industry Council, New Zealand Building Industry Federation, New Zealand Institute of Architects, Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation, New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors, Local Government New Zealand and Standards New Zealand.
