Hide and Brash have got it all wrong
MPs Rodney Hide and Don Brash should get their facts right before they issue inaccurate press statements which are bordering on being defamatory. PSA national secretary Richard Wagstaff said today.
“Mr Hide’s and Mr Brash’s accusations that the PSA financially supports the Labour Party are utterly false. This does not happen now and never has in the past. The PSA takes great exception to this allegation and especially takes issue with the reference in Mr Hide’s press release of today to money “laundering”. Indeed, we have taken legal advice on this matter and are considering our position.”
Richard Wagstaff said the payments paid to union members referred to in Mr Hide’s press release were legitimate payments which were paid by employers as recognition of the role the union played in improving the quality and efficiency of public services - which in turn benefited everyone.
“The role of the union is to negotiate on behalf of its members for better working terms and conditions. We have done this. When we negotiate benefits for our members it means employees are happy, employers are happy, and the net result is a quality service.”
