Proposed "Responsible Gambling Bill" has far reaching implications for communities all around Aotearoa.
Press release by Jed Horner
Rotorua Resident
Moves by the Government to introduce legislation that will ultimately prevent the development of a Resort Casino that will benefit the people of Rotorua are absurd and a result of Government Bureaucracy.
The "Responsible Gaming Bill" is due to be reported back to Parliament on the 29th of November and in its present form, if it is passed, will result in our town losing out on employment and economic growth opportunities as well as the development of a major Maori asset.
Ngati Whakaue, who own the land where the proposed Centre will hopefully be built envisage a high-class entertainment centre that meets local kawa, will deliver opportunities and ultimately benefit the grass roots Maori and wider society.
The Government needs to realise the benefits such a facility could bring to our city and take action to ensure that Iwi have rangatiratanga over their assets and what they wish to do with them.
