Bombing In Bali
The Government of Indonesia strongly condemns the bombing which took place in Kuta and Renon, Bali, and Manado, on 12
October 2002, at 23.15 local time which caused scores of victims.
According to the latest report, in the Kuta bombing, 182 deaths are confirmed, 132 injured and others still unaccounted
for. From the confirmed victims, many are foreign nationals.
Medical emergency measures are ongoing. The Government of Indonesia welcomes the humanitarian assistance offered by the
Government of Australia in the form of medical team which is already on the way to Bali.
The Government of Indonesia conveys its condolences and deep sympathy to the family of the victims, both Indonesians as
well as foreign citizens, for the brutal and inhumane acts of violence which contravene the applicable law, religious
teachings and the moral standard which we uphold.
The security authorities are presently working their utmost to investigate the bombings and to arrest the perpetrators
and bring them to justice.
The Government of Indonesia calls on the public to remain calm and to raise their alertness. The bombings once again
should serve as a reminder to us all that terrorism is a real and potential threat to national security.
The Government of Indonesia will also continue to work together with the international community to overcome terrorism
which is also a threat to global security.
