Animal Rights Activists Target Wellington Insurance Broker
Media release: Sept 20th, 2002
Animal rights activists to target Wellington insurance company as part of an international campaign against animal testing.
Wellington Animal Action is organising the first protest this Friday (Sept 20th) at Noon Location: Marsh Wellington Office Price Waterhouse Coopers Tower, 113-119 The Terrace, Wellington
Wellington Animal rights activists are joining an international campaign to shut down one of the worlds largest animal testing labs. Huntingdon Life Sciences is a multinational contract animal testing company that has been under seige from anti vivisection activists since undercover film footage exposed horrific animal cruelty inside company laboratories in New Jersey(USA) and England.
Animal rights activists are protesting today outside the Wellington Branch of Marsh Ltd, an international financial services company. Protest spokesperson Mark Eden says "Marsh offices around the world are being targeted because the company provides financial services to Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). HLS has been forced to the brink of bankruptcy by animal rights activists who have forced shareholders, banks, investors, and customers to stop doing business with HLS. Protest are being held at Marsh offices all over the world this week and I have no doubt that Marsh will eventually give in and drop its support for the most hated animal testing company in the world".
Marsh Ltd is the leading broker servicing the Chemical and Life Sciences Industries including the notorious vivisection laboratory, Huntingdon Life Sciences. HLS is Europe's biggest contract animal testing company. 500 animals die every day in horrific experiments in HLS laboratories. There is an international campaign to close down HLS, and here in New Zealand we are demanding that Marsh NZ tell its head office to stop supporting animal abusers.
Huntingdon Life Sciences is Europe's largest contract animal testing laboratory and ranks as one of the largest in the world. HLS is a company based in the United Kingdom where it operates two laboratory sites. Additionally HLS runs another laboratory facility in New Jersey, USA, called the Princeton Research Center. Everyday 500 animals die a horrible death after being slowly poisoned. At any one point there are over 70,000 animals in the HLS labs suffering a fate worse than death, including over 1,000 dogs, 200 cats, 1,000 monkeys, 4,000 guinea pigs, 2,000 rabbits, 3,000 birds, 4,000 fish, and countless farms animals and rodents. HLS specialises in testing the toxicity of agrochemical, GMOs, food colorings, adhesives, washing powders, and various pharmaceutical products.
