The Treasury today released papers provided to the Minister of Finance on the negotiation of the new Policy Targets Agreement (PTA), given that there is likely to be widespread interest in this advice.
The material consists of two reports:
· "Appointment of a New Governor: Policy Targets and Relationship Expectations"
· provides Treasury's views on the performance of monetary policy, options for the design of an inflation target and the Treasury's preferred approach. In addition it discusses the Minister's future relationship with the new Governor.
"Aide-Memoire: Appointment of a Governor - Process and PTA Issues" recaps Treasury advice on the PTA and sets out a recommended process for negotiating the PTA and expediting the appointment of a new Governor.
The papers are available from the Treasury's website at http://www.treasury.govt.nz/release/pta/. Hard copies of the papers are available from the reception desk on the 13th floor of the Treasury, No. 1 the Terrace.
