Anderton Ambused – Crackers Returns Home to Roost
Earlier this week Crackers and her newly found mate Cocky ambushed an unsuspecting Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton at a local candidates meeting.
Anderton was initially caught off guard, by the prescence of the two chickens. And when Reporters from Television One approached Mr Anderton for a comment about recent attacks on his integrity from local Alliance Candidate Sean Gourley. Mr Anderton was overheard saying “I’m not talking to you while they (Crackers and friend) are around” and later told Crackers to “grow up” and accused her of being Chicken Brained.
Crackers was somewhat insulted by Anderton’s remarks telling her to grow up, as she has just had her fourth birthday, which makes her 34 years old in chicken terms.
In what was expected to be a homecoming of sorts for Anderton, his party was crashed by two 6-foot tall chickens. The crowd was sceptical at first, with one PCP supporter threatening to leave the meeting if the Chickens did not leave, this was met with cries of “go home then” from the audience. However everyone decided stay and that’s when the feathers really started to fly.
Mr Anderton’s earlier remarks did not seem to dampen Crackers enthusiasm as she and put on a great show challenging the Deputy Prime Minister to defend his damaged integrity, from the allegations that have been flying about.
Immediately after completing his speech Anderton may a quick getaway hoping to avoid being hen-pecked by the disgruntled Crackers and Cocky. The Chickens did not take flight however, and Crackers took up what she thought to be her rightful position in Mr Anderton’s vacated chair.
The irony of the whole situation was not lost on the audience, many of whom remembered the legendary emergence of Crackers back in 1998. When during the Taranaki King-Country By-Election Mr Anderton called upon the young Crackers to protest against the actions of opposition MP’s.
When Crackers was asked why her allegiances had not stayed with Mr Anderton she replied, “Mr Anderton’s actions over the last 6 months have given chickens everywhere a bad name. And it’s up to me to help bring integrity back to politics.”
Mr Andeton and Crackers will go head to head one final time at the last of the Candidates Meetings this Thursday night.
