59,000 Young People Still To Enrol For General Election Last Chance To Enrol Friday
There are just five days left for the 59,000 18-24 year old eligible electors who have yet to enrol for the general election to do so before enrolment closes this Friday 26 July. These people make up 34% of the 172,000 eligible electors who still aren't enrolled for the election.
"We're encouraging all unenrolled electors, including young people, to enrol in time for the election," said Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks.
"Eligible electors can enrol up to and including this Friday 26 July but they cannot enrol on Election Day. Friday is also the deadline for people who need to update their enrolment details."
Enrolment forms are available from any PostShop or can be downloaded from the elections website www.elections.org.nz. Completed forms must be in the post or handed in at any PostShop before the close of business Friday 26 July to be accepted. Forms can also be faxed to (04) 801 0709.
"Information on enrolling and voting is available on the website and eligible electors can check their enrolment details online," Mr Wicks said. The printed electoral rolls that will be used on Election Day are available for checking at PostShops and public libraries.
Mr Wicks said that to date, about 2.643 million people had enrolled. This represents 93.8% of the eligible voting population.
