Statement By Harry Waalkens, Barrister On Behalf Of Dr Anton Wiles
Dr Wiles is distressed and disappointed that Mr Ron Paterson, the Health and Disability Commissioner, has seen fit to make statements to the news media and the public regarding his case. That matter is "sub judice" given that the appeal, lodged by the HDC's Director of Proceedings, is yet to be heard by the High Court. It is not an appropriate time for him to make statements to the media.
There is a grave temptation to respond on the part of Dr Wiles, particularly given he disagrees with the statement of the HDC but Dr Wiles will not do so whilst the matter is before the High Court.
