“Maybe anti-GM campaigners will now acknowledge they are in the minority,” Dr William Rolleston said today in commenting
on the latest opinion poll which shows two-thirds of those polled supported commercial release of GM under carefully
controlled conditions.
“The Herald DigiPoll survey confirms the results of surveys undertaken by UMR Insight last year.
“The polls show New Zealanders are comfortable with the commercial release of food and crops derived from gene
technology when the release is approved by the regulatory authorities and is subject to careful controls.
“Approved use of GM is safe.
“I hope the Green Party and the other campaigners against GM will now recognise the polls they keep quoting are flawed
and don’t reflect what the public are actually saying,” concluded Dr Rolleston.
