Registration For Another Political Party
The Electoral Commission today announced it had registered Jim Anderton’s Progressive Coalition party and approved its
party logo.
At the same time the Commission advised it had cancelled the registration of The Republican Party Incorporated because
it was satisfied that the party’s number of current financial members had fallen below 500.
In another move, the Commission declined to uphold an objection from the Labour Party that the Alliance’s proposed logo
would be confusing or misleading. It approved the registration of replacement logos for both Labour and the Alliance.
From tomorrow’s issuing of the writ for the general election the Electoral Commission must end further political party
registration activity until after the election.
In order to be able to nominate a party list and contest the Party Vote, parties have to be registered before Writ Day.
There are now 21 political parties eligible to contest the Party Vote.
