The New Zealand People Deserve Better
Press Release of The Monarchist League of New Zealand Inc.
Queen's Birthday Monday 3rd June 2002
This weekend sees the culmination of the year's celebrations of Her Majesty The Queen's Golden Jubilee. Events are occurring worldwide, with street parties, thanksgiving services, beacons, parades and other festivities.
Observance of the Golden Jubilee in New Zealand is low-key. New Zealanders traditionally prefer to follow the major royal occasions held in London. Therefore it is a matter of regret that the principal celebrations in London, which might properly be seen as the international focus of the celebrations, may not be broadcast live on New Zealand television. The New Zealand people deserve better.
The Golden Jubilee gives the people a rare opportunity to thank The Queen for her years' of selfless service to New Zealand and the Commonwealth.
