At 10am today the Animal Liberation Delivery Team covered Mainland Poultry’s Central Dunedin Office with hay and leaves,
in an action highlighting the company’s total lack of animal ethics.
“It’s obvious from the way Mainland Poultry keep hens in dark sheds and wire cages that they know nothing about what
animals like and need, only what it takes to make money. By delivering the things chickens like, we thought we could
point them in the right direction.
“If this action has caused inconvenience or discomfort to Mainland employees, we do not apologise - battery hens suffer
every minute of every day.
The action coincides with a National Call in Day, encouraging concerned people and animal lovers alike to contact
Mainland Poultry farms and offices to enquire about laying conditions.
“Battery hen giant Mainland Poultry is responsible for the suffering and deaths of hundreds of thousands of animals
every year. With intentions to expand to 900,000 hens at their Waikouaiti operation, they also own numerous battery
farms spread throughout the country.
“These hens will never feel the sun, scratch the earth or even walk around. They live in tiny dark sloping wire cages,
four birds to each cage. Their suffering is extreme and relentless - and we will be relentless too.
