Statement On National Party Funding Investigation

I have received several calls today in relation to a particular investigation.
My normal policy is to neither confirm nor deny what the Serious Fraud Office may or may not be investigating.
Having carefully considered the current case I have decided that it is in the public interest to make this release. I confirm that I am currently investigating a particular allegation relating to an aspect of funding provided to the National Party in the mid 1990s.
At this time I am not prepared to make any further comment except to say that this investigation is being handled in the same manner as any investigation.
