"The Libertarianz Party welcomes the news that Alliance MP, Liz Gordon is considering leaving parliament," says Lindsay
Mitchell, Libertarianz spokesman for the deregulation of welfare. "With any luck she will take Laila with her."
"In a speech Ms Harre made in Rotorua today she reiterated her party's intentions to advance the re-distribution of
income to poor families. Strangely enough New Zealand governments have been pursuing this policy for decades and yet the
number of children living in poverty continues to climb, " says Mitchell. "As Ms Harre points out, it is simply
unacceptable for 30 percent of New Zealand children to be living below the poverty line. With this much I can agree."
"So why doesn't she ask herself what has gone wrong? Could it have anything to do with governments paying benefits to
parents who break up their relationships? Could it have anything to do with governments paying benefits to people who
have children without any means of supporting them?" Mitchell asks.
"The 30% of children Ms Harre refers to are living in households dependent on income support - mainly the DPB. If we are
serious about eradicating poverty then we should not look to governments to do it. They have been trying for too long
and have only suceeded in making the situation far worse."
Mitchell concludes, "It is widely recognised that you cannot make the poor richer by making the rich poorer. The only
answer is for people to take individual responsibility for their own lives and the lives of their children. The Alliance
Party, with it's flawed ideology, will never understand this. Thank you Liz for expediting their demise."
"It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!"
