A PSA Pacific Peoples’ fono to be held in Christchurch this month is one way for the union to address the issues,
concerns, and aspirations of its Pacific membership, PSA national secretary Bryce Fleury said today.
“New Zealand has a special relationship with Pacific peoples and the PSA believes that we, as a union, have a
responsibility to protect and foster that relationship. We see a need to involve our members from Pacific communities in
decision-making, and to gain a greater understanding of their employment issues.”
Bryce Fleury said the PSA is committed to implementing policies, programmes, and training to ensure that Pacific peoples
are effectively represented within its organisational structure and which build upon Pacific peoples’ values.
Guest speaker at the fono will be Luamanuvao Winnie Laban, Labour candidate for Mana at the upcoming election.
Bryce Fleury said the Christchurch fono is the first of three the PSA has organised, with one in Wellington on May 13
and one in Auckland on June 17.
