ACT Ohariu-Belmont Candidate Announced
Release by ACT Ohariu-Belmont
4.00pm, Friday 15 March, 2002
Mother of five Heather Roy will stand for ACT New Zealand in Ohariu Belmont. Mrs Roy, 38, welcomed the nomination for the strong ACT electorate. "Ohariu Belmont is a significant seat for ACT New Zealand. Voters here like the principles ACT stands for. I look forward to turning that robust support into votes." Mrs Roy was tenth on the party list for ACT New Zealand in 1999, when nine MPs were sent to Parliament. Mrs Roy is strongly involved in the health sector, and is a contractor for the New Zealand portrait gallery. She stood for Wellington City Council last year and narrowly missed ousting two longstanding councillors. She has been involved with ACT New Zealand since 1996. "Ohariu Belmont is a unique electorate, because the majority of voters are choosing between two minor parties – United Future and ACT. I look forward to running a vigorous, clean campaign, presenting the ACT values of individual freedom, choice and responsibility," Mrs Roy said.
