Prebble Red-Carded

"Rugby World Cup negotiations is not a legitimate function of government, despite Richard Prebble's sudden interest," said Libertarianz deputy leader Richard McGrath today. "Although it is true that the IRB display all the bumbling ineptness of a small government department, the fact remains that the New Zealand government should be taking no interest at all in people's recreational activities, despite what ACT claims."
McGrath recounts overhearing a quiet conversation over a pub lunch between two lesser-known luminaries, who were discussing Prebble's move:
"Interfering in the Rugby World Cup ain't a legit function of guv'ment," began Libz spokesman Smith over his shark and taties.
"But ACT finks they should," replied Libz spokesman Jones, lifting his elbow to lubricate his throat for a long discussion.
"The guv'ment shouldn't be stickin' their noses into nobody's recreational activities, " maintains Smith. "Wots a bet we'll soon 'ave a Minister responsible for the rugby tournament?"
"Well, now ya mention it, there's another fing they shouldn't 'ave their sticky beaks in; gamblin'," says Jones. "Anyway, wot odds are you offerin?"
"Odds on. Not that I'm runnin' a book like. It's on the cards though, wiv Trev already Minister of the America's Cup," says Smith.
"Is 'e now? So d'you think Prebs is after the Rugby portfolio then?"
"Don't be silly. 'E can't 'old a portfolio if 'e ain't in the Guverment," scoffs Smith.
"Isn't 'e???" asks an incredulous Jones.
"Well, he ain't bin for a long time."
"Fink 'e's missing it then do ya?" asks Jones.
"You'd fink so when 'e's prepared to throw 'is 'small guv'rment' message out the winda for the sake of bringin' the rugby crowd on board."
"Just a vote catcher ya reckon?" asks Jones.
" What do you fink?"
"It's 'nuff to make ya vote bleedin' Libertarianz!"
