Community GE Free Groups Concerned By Politicians Attitude.
An opinion of an ACT MP that NZ community groups should not allowed to apply for comparatively tiny amounts of money
when US $500m is being spent on pro GE propaganda over 5 years is considered unreasonable by GE Free organisations.
ACT ( The Association of Consumers and Taxpayers) appear to have been strangely silent over the last few years in
fighting for either consumer rights (such as GE food labels) or taxpayers rights (any liability for GE is at present
borne by the public, effectively becoming a subsidy for private investors).
Recent reports from the UK scientific establishment, English Nature and the Royal Society show that if anything, more
communication is needed, the Royal Society stating that concerns should 'be addressed through collaboration and dialogue
between industrialists, public sector scientists, regulatory agencies and non governmental organizations.'
GEOFFREY LEAN, an award-winning writer on the environment recently stated, Daily Mail 6.2.02 "Two reports from the heart
of the scientific establishment now reveal that the British people were right to have been worried." He goes on to say.
"Environment Minister (UK) Michael Meacher admitted last week that the Government does not have high credibility' on GM
issues and 'needs to listen' to the public. As the reports reveal, it should have done so a long time ago."
