Jo Campbell and Hugh Barr will address the next Atla meeting on the theme of "the quantum leap from awareness to action" on Monday 25th February 7.30pm Meeting Room 1, Wellington City Council. (Use the Glass Atrium entrance off Wakefield St)
Jo Campbell is Environmental Education Coordinator for the Wellington Regional Council where her main responsibility has been to create the Take Action programme for schools. Prior to that Jo worked in Peru and Bolivia as an environmental researcher and eco-tourism guide, and before that in the UK for Eco Trust. She has a Masters in Environment and Society, and a BA in Sculpture.
Hugh Barr is a newly elected Wellington Regional Councillor. He is a keen tramper, who has been a national advocate for outdoor recreation and wildlands for the last 25 years. He is also a business consultant and applied mathematician. Hugh sees obtaining change either in politics, community or business as something requiring knowledge, skill and persistence. He will comment on a
number of successful and unsuccessful campaigns and consultancies he has been involved in.
ATLA, APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY FOR LIVING ASSOCIATION ATLA began life in 1992 set up by likeminded people concerned with the environmentaly destructive technologies based on the oil economy and unsustainable lifestyles. Members aim to learn how to make changes in their own lifestyles towards low impact sustainable living. A demonstration trailer, built to illustrate sustainable, low-impact living in renewable energy production is made available to schools and fairs.
