Wellington Independent Rape Crisis joins the Peoples Centre:
Today Wellington Independent Rape Crisis joined the Wellington peoples centre at a demonstration in Wellington Central. The demonstration which included the shredding of Work and Income documents was focused on the specific programmes aimed at the DPB.
Spokesperson Amy Ross said that the targeting of the DPB, which is often used by women escaping violent relationships was deplorable and an unnecessary stress for women trying to take care of their families.
The changes imposed upon the DPB came from a culture of mistrust of women and provides only further stigmatisation to what should be the honoured and respected job of raising children Ms Ross said.
Wellington Independent Rape Crisis supports the Peoples Centre in it's attempt to educate and empower people on the changes and joins it's voice to those speaking out against the erosion of such an important benefit.
