Auckland Joins Global Pro-Capitalism Rally

Published: Thu 22 Nov 2001 11:25 AM
Auckland will be one of over 100 cities around the world on December 2, 2001 to host the WalkForCapitalism - the first annual Global Rally for Capitalism.
Individuals from every continent of the globe & from all walks of life will join forces to defend, promote & celebrate Free Enterprise & the fruits of freedom. Capitalism requires & encourages political freedom & individual rights; creativity, technology, & the sanctity of private property; free trade in global markets; individual & national prosperity; profits & reward for success - & the real prospect of world peace.
"Capitalism is simply what you have when people are free to produce & to trade under the protection of the rule of law - it is the natural state of human beings, & the engine of freedom & prosperity everywhere," says Auckland coordinator Peter Cresswell.
WE THINK THAT'S SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE, & ON DECEMBER 2ND SUPPORTERS OF CAPITALISM & FREEDOM INTEND TO DO SO IN AUCKLAND & IN OVER 100 CITIES AROUND THE WORLD.
The December 2nd festivities worldwide will include walks, rallies & the presentation of International Capitalism Awards to deserving recipients in each city around the world.
Auckland’s walk will begin at noon on Sunday December 2nd at QEII Square at the foot of Queen St, then proceed along Quay St to the Viaduct Basin, honouring various businesses along the way such as Starbucks, McDonald's & Microsoft, & the wonderful outdoor pubs & cafes - & not forgetting the Americas Cup yachting teams - before visiting & honouring the traders at Victoria Park Market & concluding the walk with a barbeque in Victoria Park.
New York Philosopher, DR ANDREW BERNSTEIN, author of the WalkForCapitalism Position Statement, explained that, "Mankind's greatest inventions & works of art - his most life-giving material & spiritual advances - from the steam engine to the cinema, from the novel to the Internet, & countless medical cures, ideas & inventions - were all created under capitalism. The more capitalist a culture, the greater its freedom & prosperity." See the full Position Statement, the complete list of Participating Cities, & other information at http://WalkForCapitalism.ORG
The point will be to celebrate & highlight the benefits of capitalism.
WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN US!

BACKGROUND: Melbourne, Australia's internet radio presenter & professional street performer, PRODOS, is founder & international coordinator of WalkForCapitalism. "The spirit of the rallies will be festive & positive," he said. "We offer a hand of support & friendship to the independent thinkers, creators & producers of the world - to whom we owe so much."
He described anti-capitalist activists as "nihilists who openly endorse using violence against anyone disagreeing with them," & said that there was no place for this in a civilised society. "It is time for the world to choose between the kind of positive, constructive capitalist principles that built the World Trade Center versus the kind which fuelled its vicious destruction, killing & injuring thousands of innocent people."
Prodos emphasises, however, that WalkForCapitalism is a positive celebration, not a reactive or anti-terrorist movement. Planning & organisation of the Rally began months before the September 11 attacks – but the wave of terrorism has caused an increase in participation, probably because so many people feel they want to DO SOMETHING to show their support for the United States, & for the free enterprise system that has made America the greatest success story in the history of Mankind.
PARTICIPATING CITIES: Cities scheduled to take part now total over 100 around the world, including Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, Whangarei, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, New York, London, Stockholm, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Prague, Moscow, Delhi, Hong Kong, & Seoul.
