The quality of service delivery and jobs for employees at Auckland City Council are at risk following the anouncement
today of a razor gang today to cut spending by $25 million" said Richard Wagstaff PSA National Secretary.
"The real concern is that, without the full and proper involvement in decisions making of Auckland City workers and the
community, decisions will be made without due regard for the consequences of those decisions" said Richard Wagstaff.
"It's easy to talk about saving money in the absence of considering the real impact of spending cuts. That is why
workers who provide services under review must be able to effectively and independently participate in the review
through their union, the PSA" said Richard Wagstaff.
"The PSA notes that the proposals for a new local govenrment act emphasise the importance of consultation and active
community participation - the PSA supports this and calls on Auckland City to demonstrate their committment to these
ideals."
The PSA has already expressed concerns about cost cutting agenda's and will continue to push for an open consultative
process of review, and to emphasise the importance to Auckland City of maintaining quality services for the citizens of
Auckland.
