Border Security Not An Optional Extra

Published: Wed 31 Oct 2001 10:16 AM
Christian Heritage Immigration Spokesperson Rosemarie Thomas said that the Party was very concerned about the apparent breach of our borders with the possible arrival of refugees recently on a container ship.
Rosemarie Thomas said that the Christian Heritage Party took very seriously any possible threats on our border not only as far as “people smuggling” was concerned but also in relation to possible Biosecurity threats.
“If there was ever a time we needed an Air force, functioning at full strength, for surveillance of New Zealand waters it is now. We would call on the Government to urgently provide adequate resources to the Air force, the New Zealand Immigration Service and also the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to ensure that no further violations occur.”
