The Wellington Anti-capitalist convergence - One No, Many Yeses!
converge! - converse! - discuss! - engage! - embrace! - celebrate! Privatisation - Globalisation - Neo-liberalism - Militarism - Imperialism - WTO - IMF - APEC - World Bank - NAFTA ----- [Whats it all about?]
Prepare to unravel the 'isms, the 'tions and the acronyms that are behind, the privatisation of our hospitals, the education system, the water we drink, our food they want to genetically modify, the corporate driven bypass intended to go through the heart of our community, the erosion of workers rights, the corporatisation of indigenous institutions and ultimately the destruction of the planet ........ the convergence is a part of a world-wide movement. A movement for humanity and against the corporate destruction of the planet. Concerned Wellingtons will be converging at Zeal [50 Victoria st] on the third and fourth of November to discuss ideas and issues, around the general theme of globalisation.
Converging Wellingtonians have come together to organise this weekend, as a part of the global build up to the next Global Day Action, scheduled to hit Wellington on November 9th. [We are everywhere! www.agp.org ] There will be a wide range of workshops, both theoretical and practical. "This will be an opportunity for those who are already involved and those who want to know more to come together and discuss the issues facing us" said Grace Millar, an organiser of the convergence.
With workshops on:
Introduction to Free Trade Issues, Anti-Capitalist Theory, Street Theatre, Decolonisation, GATS and Services, GE & Globalisation, Militarism & Globalisation, Indymedia, Current issues around Bastion Point, Positive Steps You Can Take, Participative Democracy, Non-Violent Direct Action, Unions, Bypass Action
With Professor Jane Kelsey speaking as the keynote speaker on Sunday afternoon.
This event will be child friendly and everyone is welcome. The convergence will run from 10-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday at Zeal. Bring a kai and a bit more [I'll probably be a bit hungry!]
