~ TUES, 16 October - Coalition for Peace Whangarei meeting, 5pm at the Trade Union Centre, 7 First Avenue, all welcome. The Coalition will meet every Tuesday, same time same place, until further notice.

~ TUES, 16 October - 'prayer - power - peace', service of prayer, Bible readings, songs, with speaker Revd Barry Tetley 'A Christian Approach to Peace', modelled on Barry's personal experiences of the non-violent revolution in the Philippines, 1986', 7-30pm at Glendowie Presbyterian Church, 197 Riddell Road. Combined Churches of St Heliers, Glendowie and Glen Innes: pray for world peace. ~ THURS, 18 October - Why the war is wrong, peace and justice public meeting - two hour meeting chaired by Maire Leadbeater, Auckland city councillor and human rights activist: first hour - panel with representatives from the Green Party, Alliance (president Matt McCarten), Quaker Peace Worker Mary Woodward, union movement (Karen Skinner), Muslim community (Gul Zaman), Women's Centre and anti-war movement; then 30 minutes floor discussion on this topic; second hour - organising and networking against the war - a chance for everyone to participate in building a broad anti-war movement; from 7-30pm at the Methodist Central Mission (opposite Town Hall, Queen St). ~ FRI, 19 October - 'War is not the answer', come with a candle to a quiet peace vigil, from 7-30pm to 8-30pm, Turtle Lake at Hamilton Gardens.
* WELLINGTON
~ WEDS, 17 October - International Day for the Eradication of Poverty - Wellington People's Centre in conjunction with local foodbanks gathering at parliament to remind the government that basic benefit levels are too low; on the same day as the Save Our Squadrons march; Food not Bombs will be there; bread and cheese will be handed out from foodbanks to people on parliament lawns - everyone is invited, 12-30pm at parliament.

~ ongoing - the Nelson Peace Group has decided that rather than keep a vigil they are going to be wearing arm bands with an appropriate message or badge until the war ends. They will carry spares to give to people who wish to do the same.
* CHRISTCHURCH
~ FRI, 19 October - No more War March and Rally, 6pm, meet at the Bridge of Remembrance, to the Square. All welcome; bring your family and friends, drums, lunch and have a good time with some lovely people. Every Friday, same time same place until further notice.
