~ FRI, 31 August - Rally to protest the Australian Government s refusal to accept as refugees the 438 asylum seekers presently aboard a Norwegian freighter off Christmas Island, with speakers representing the sponsoring groups, including Bishop Peter Sutton, Peter Sutton, ex-chair of Amnesty Intl NZ and Brian Turner, chair of Nelson Council of Churches. At 12 noon, Church steps, Trafalgar St. The meeting is being sponsored by the Nelson Group of Amnesty International, Nelson Council of Churches and the Nelson Action Group.
