Time Is Running Out To Enrol For Elections – Electoral Rolls Close On Friday
Time is running out for eligible electors to enrol or update their enrolment details for the local council and district health board elections that will be held in October.
“The electoral rolls that will be used during the elections close on Friday 31 August,” said Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks. “Electors need to be correctly enrolled by then to receive voting papers in the mail for the elections. “
Mr Wicks said that electors who received an update pack in the mail in early August should check their details that are shown on the form in the pack. Electors need to return the form if any of their details need updating.
“Anyone who didn’t receive a pack is either not enrolled or their enrolment details are out of date. If this is the case, they will need to fill in a new enrolment form,” said Mr Wicks.
Enrolment forms are available from Post Shops, public libraries and council offices, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections website www.elections.org.nz. Eligible electors can also check and update their enrolment details and enrol online.
“Enrolling is quick and simple to do. Electors who need help filling in their form or would like information in another language can call 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or their local registrar of electors,” said Mr Wicks.
The last day for people to enrol or update their details is 31 August. Voting papers will be sent to registered electors from 21 September and will need to be returned by midday on Saturday 13 October.
Mr Wicks said that currently 93% of the eligible voting population is enrolled to vote in the elections. This includes 16,500 new enrolments.
