More work needed over courts remuneration review
A year-long review looking at court staff remuneration needs more work, the Department for Courts said today.
“The remuneration project was undertaken under the Partnership for Quality between the Public Service Association and the Department, and involved PSA staff, PSA delegates, departmental staff and departmental managers, says General Manager of Human Resources June Dallinger.
“The review has delivered a new remuneration system for the department. The challenge now is working through the implementation issues, in partnership with the PSA.
“We accept generally our staff could be better paid. But pay is only one of the components of implementing the new remuneration system. Others are about the development and demonstration of better skills, and about better training.
“We are looking first for solutions within the Department. Options may or may not include approaching the Government.
“It may be six or eight weeks before the options have been adequately assessed and the next steps have been worked through with the PSA, says June Dallinger.
In 1998, the Department for Courts and the Public Service Association entered into a Partnership for Quality in which both would put old style attitudes behind them and move to a relationship of trust and confidence to jointly improve the quality of the department’s services and the skills of the department’s staff.
