“Pressure is building on the Government to deliver on their Paid Parental Leave promises in the budget,” said PPL
Coalition spokesperson Dayna Berghan. “Tomorrow we will be taking that message directly to the government when we rally
at Parliament.”
At 1 pm, on Wednesday 25 July, the Coalition will be rallying at Parliament to build a pyramid of brightly coloured
cubes with messages from groups and individuals as to why new parents need to know what kind of paid parental leave they
will receive next year.
“The coalition is a broad group including women’s groups, health organisations, trade unions and student groups,” said
Ms Berghan. “The Wellington rally is part of a national day of action for paid parental leave – the them is 14 weeks PPL
- building a fairer, family friendly society. The other main event will be in Auckland.”
“We want a commitment from Government as to what they will be offering to help build a family friendly New Zealand,”
said Ms Berghan. “We still do not know who will receive paid parental leave or what level it will be paid at. Our
message is that we will expect this government to deliver a decent package for working mums and to let us know the
details as soon as possible.”
