David Clendon to lead Greens
Well known Green activist David Clendon was today elected as male co-convenor of the Green Party. Mr Clendon is a
tenured lecturer in environmental politics and policies, ethics, and resource planning.
The Green Party has two co-convenors who head the organisational side of the Party. The co-convenors fulfil the role of
party president.
The female co-convenor Dr Marg O'Brien has been re-elected earlier, at the Party's annual conference in Nelson at the
beginning of June. Neither of two candidates for the male co-convenor role received enough votes of confidence at that
time so a new ballot was called.
Mr Clendon said today he was delighted at being elected and was looking forward to strengthening the party
infrastructure, funding base and profile.
"The Green Party has been my political home since the party's inception in 1990," said Mr Clendon. "My official roles
have included electorate contact, provincial treasurer, executive net-worker, and local body and parliamentary
candidate.
"I am very much looking forward to contribute to further developing a strong, focused and well resourced Party capable
of succeeding and of managing success," he said.
Dr Marg O'Brien welcomed Clendon's election and said she was looking forward to his contribution and support,
particularly in the Auckland region, potentially the Greens largest voter base.
