Green Candidates take the “Positive Politics Pledge”
WHO: Green Party local body candidates
WHAT: Launching campaign “Positive Politics Pledge”
WHEN: Sunday, 5 p.m.
WHERE: Michel Fowler Centre, 111 Wakefield Street
WHY: Because we believe in democracy and respectful political discussion
On Sunday 15 July outside the Local Government New Zealand conference at the Michael Fowler Centre, Green local body candidates will be launching the “Positive Politics Pledge” campaign for the upcoming local body elections. The aim of the campaign is to encourage candidates to campaign positively by attacking the issues, not each other.
Delegates to the Local Government New Zealand conference will each be provided with a copy of the Pledge and encouraged to put their signatures on a large sign printed with the Pledge. A photo opportunity, including the Mayor of Dunedin, Sukhi Turner, will take place outside the Michael Fowler Centre at 5 pm on Sunday afternoon, during registration for the conference.
Green Party local body candidates will be approaching others on the campaign trail to join them in signing up to the Pledge.
The Positive Politics Pledge reads:
- I will address the issues and refrain from making personal attacks on my opponents.
- I will promote my own policies firmly and discuss dissenting views without abuse.
- I will seek common ground, and acknowledge and build on the ideas of others without denigration.
- I support respectful political discussion and behaviour, and will observe meeting procedures in a democratic and non-disruptive manner.
The Green local body candidates launching the campaign are Celia Wade-Brown (Southern Ward, Wellington City), Brent Efford (Lambton Ward, Wellington City), Olivia Mitchell (Northern Ward, Porirua City), Meg Craigie (Upper Hutt) and Alison White (Capital and Coast District Health Board).
