1 March 2001
Kia ora,
Below are a number of things to do/consider for those of you interested in coming to Wellington for the alternative and
NGO events around the UN Asia-Pacific Regional Disarmament Conference at the end of March.
1) Air travel - a reminder that you need to book your tickets very soon to take advantage of the cheapest airfares if
you are planning on flying here;
2) Accommodation on Tapu Te Ranga marae - if you are planning on staying on Tapu Te Ranga, you need to let us know as
soon as possible. The booking forms are available at
3) NGO roster to the official UN conference, 27 to 30 March - there are some spaces for NGO representatives to attend
the sessions at the UN Conference about which they have particular knowledge, or are especially interested in. The
official sessions include: 2000 NPT RevCon - implementation and follow up; compliance with the NPT; nuclear weapon-free
zones; illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons; and a session on disarmament treaties and regimes including
the CTBT, CWC, Ottawa Convention, IAEA safeguards; and the UN Arms register.
If you would like to be considered for inclusion on the NGO roster, please respond immediately to this email - as you
may be receiving this message via an e-list, please ensure you reply to , not to the e-list.
Please specify which sessions you are interested in attending. If you could number your choices from 1 as the one you
would MOST like to attend, then downwards to indicate lesser interest that would be extremely helpful. The NGO
Co-ordinating Group will be putting the roster together in the next couple of weeks.
4) Alternative and fringe events, 10 to 31 March - details of the PeacePacific (youth) events are available at These details will be updated again early next week.
5) The NGO programme, 26 to 30 March, will be uploaded to some time next week. We are still awaiting final confirmation from some of the speakers and resource people who are
coming from overseas and from around Aotearoa.
6) General information about the conference is available at
Peace Movement Aotearoa the national networking peace group PO Box 9314, Wellington, Aotearoa / New Zealand.
