Wellington, March 1, 2001 – U.S. Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun departed New Zealand today, after heading the mission in
Wellington for 15 months.
“It is with no small sadness that I leave New Zealand,” said Ambassador Moseley Braun.
“I have often remarked about my good fortune in having been appointed Ambassador to Paradise.
“During my extensive travels throughout the country, I have met extraordinary people where ever I went. I will cherish
forever my memories of New Zealand.”
Ambassador Moseley Braun said she had every confidence that Mission staff would continue to build upon the solid
relationship that exists between the United States and New Zealand.
With the Ambassador’s departure, Deputy Chief of Mission Philip Wall became Chargé d’affaires and will head the mission
until a new ambassador is in place.
The appointment of ambassadors involves a presidential nomination and confirmation by the Senate.
