The New Zealand National Party launched its latest business initiative in Auckland this week. "National Enterprise" will
be a forum of Auckland and New Zealand business leaders who wish to impact on the policies that the National Party will
pursue in the 2002 elections.
"National wants to listen" said Bill English when he launched National Enterprise last night. "We need to know what you
and your companies expect of us and how our policies can make sure that we give you the right environment so that your
businesses can produce economic growth and sustain it. We are here to listen but we need your input".
The forum elected Mr John Lister as their Chairman. Mr Lister was previously the President of the New Zealand Export
Institute and now holds the position of CEO of one of New Zealand's best known youth development charities, The Spirit
of Adventure Trust. Mr Lister made it clear in his introduction to the fifty business leaders who attended the inaugural
meeting that it is his intention to listen, seek out the road blocks and employ strategy that will be right for
business, but fair for all.
The initiative of National Enterprise was that of National Party MP Warren Kyd, fully supported by the National
Management Board of the National Party.
The President of the National Party John Slater said "We welcome this new initiative as we reach out to small to medium
businesses in an effort to determine good and sound policy on business".
A series of workshops seeking views and open discussion are planned and we invite all employers who wish to express
their views to join us.
