The PSA, the union for Education Review Office staff, said today the ‘fresh direction proposed for the organisation must
be properly resourced otherwise it will fail.’
‘Without this, the mostly acceptable findings of this report cannot be realised,’ PSA organiser Jeff Osborne warned.
The report is in line with the PSA’s call for the ERO to remain a stand-alone organisation but, significantly, extends
its focus to allow it to assist schools more and work more closely with other education sector agencies.
‘Our members are mostly pleased with the report and welcome an end to the uncertainty about the organisation’s future,’
Osborne said.
‘They strongly support the ERO remaining a separate organisation and believe this will provide them with a clearer focus
for their work.
‘They’re also positive about the proposal to extend their role in schools through providing educational advice, rather
than simply acting as auditors,’ he said.
‘The ERO is a key education organisation and this report supports that.
‘Our members will continue contributing to a quality early childhood and schools sector in New Zealand,’ Osborne said.
