Superannuation - Where are the Dancing Cossacks Now?
“Leave people’s money alone, and they can save for their own retirement,” says Libertarianz Leader Peter Cresswell. “Always bleating that NZers don’t save, Cullen intends to make it even harder by sucking even more out of their pockets to fund his own scheme.”
Cullen – demonstrably no sort of financial genius - expects the resulting ‘wedge’ to reach up to $250billion, a big challenge given the political appointees expected to manage the thing. “Expect to see the scheme require well over the $2billion per annum Cullen talks of now,” says Cresswell.
“But even if successful the results promise to be frightening. Some years ago (in one of his few attacks of principle) Robert Muldoon pointed out that Bill Rowling’s scheme would see the govt eventually buying up most of the country – “creeping socialism” he called it, and he was right.”
His successor Bill English shows how much further the National Socialists have slipped since then when he says: “We have no problems with it in principle.” The problem is the National Socialists have no principles – they simply look forward to getting their own hands on this stolen money. With opposition like this it’s no wonder a man as inept as Cullen can stay in his job.”
“There is an easier and more honest way,” says Cresswell. “Privatise SOEs and other govt assets, and with the proceeds buy annuities for those already of pensionable age or very near it. And leave the rest of us alone to make our own plans.”
