Maori leaders and elders must take full responsibility for their part in the burgeoning violence and child abuse among
Maori which is a phenomenon of the last forty years.
Resentment leads to anger which leads to violence and some Maori leaders like Mrs Turia, associate Maori Affairs
minister, are at the forefront in promoting resentment.
Most Maori can pursue justice without resentment and make forgiveness and reconciliation their aim, but those who do not
should be recognised for the harm they are doing to their own people.
The Christian Heritage Party recognises the Treaty of Waitangi and applauds the attempts to reconcile past injustices
but in no way supports the concept that bad behaviour can be blamed on historical events. Each person has the option of
choosing justice with forgiveness, or resentment, anger and self justification.
