MEDIA RELEASE
10 August, 2000
Children themselves are aware of the danger that can surround them at home. The Children’s Charter on Children’s Rights,
written by children of New Zealand and eighty-seven other countries in a Parliament held in January, has seven resolves,
which are specific to child safety.
The First Resolution declares “ all children have the right only to share their shelter with people they feel safe
with.”
Sandi Hall, spokesperson for the Children’s Charter Trust said, “We hope strategy meetings about children’s safety at
home includes children. Their voices need to be heard”.
The Children’s Charter on Children’s rights was tabled in Parliament last week by Speaker Jonathan Hunt.
