Hon Elaine Nile’s Retirement

Published: Tue 25 Jul 2000 03:16 PM
Party Leader Graham Capill has described the pending retirement of the Hon. Elaine Nile MLC from the NSW Legislative Council as a “huge loss for NSW and Australia.”
Mr Capill said, “She and her husband have made an invaluable contribution to family life and have promoted a unique stance on moral issues, which most politicians shy away from.
“Her relentless campaign for mothers and children, not to mention her stand against the promotion of illegal drugs, gambling and excessive drinking, brought a refreshing and much needed emphasis in NSW. New Zealand misses this emphasis in our Parliament.
“That Hon. Elaine and the Rev Fred Nile could sit in Parliament as a husband and wife team, showed that family values are more than mere talk. Happily married for forty-two years, their exemplary lives were just as powerful a testimony as were their words and speeches in Parliament.
“We wish Mrs Nile God’s blessing on a well earned retirement and are thankful that the Hon. the Rev Nile can continue to battle on, assisted by John Bradfield, Mrs Niles’ successor in the Legislative Council,” Mr Capill concluded.
