Israeli Deputy PM Visit

Published: Thu 25 May 2000 04:33 PM
Kia ora, we have been asked by Arthur Quinn (Waiwhetu / Lower Hutt Peace Group) to alert you all to the impending visit of the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, who arrives here on Sunday (departs on Tuesday) and will be meeting with representatives of the government while here.
Arthur has asked if you are able, could you please contact either Helen Clark’s or Jim Anderton’s office and ask them to raise the matter of Mordechai Vanunu with Mr Ben-Eliezer during any talks they may have with him. Mordechai is the Israeli technician who blew the whistle on Israel’s nuclear weapons programme and was kidnapped by Israeli agents in Rome and transported back to Israel for trial. He has served thirteen and a half years in prison, eleven and a half years of that in solitary confinement.
