Murderous May Day Memories
As statists around the Western world commence their annual May Day eulogies, Libertarianz Leader Peter Cresswell suggests they reflect instead on the true legacy of their chosen ideology:
20 million dead in the Soviet Union from 1917-1991 Includes 5 million from a famine caused by collectivisation in 1922; 200,000 executions from 1918-1922 alone; 4 million from Ukrainian famine of 1930-1932 caused by purge of Kulaks.
Cuba - 1750 political prisoners today including one prison labour camp for children under 10. Estimated 18,000 executed since Castro came to power in 1959.
Cambodia - at least 1.5 million murdered, starved, left to die 1975-1978 - 1 in 5 of the population - under the communist Khmer Rouge.
North Korea - 1.5 million died in concentration camps since 1947; regime still holds 250,000 people in camps, including hard labour camps for children of political prisoners. 500,000 died in famines since 1993 while government spent over $100 million on a lavish mausoleum for Kim Il Sung, and developed long range ballistic missiles.
Eastern Europe - 1 million died in East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Albania between 1945-1991 as a result of communist executions and persecution.
In Greece, 1948 Communists abducted 28 000 children and took them to Albania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia to raise as "new socialist citizens".
At least 46 million dead in China since 1949. By execution; death during imprisonment for crimes against the state; famines caused by great leap forward; and communist policies. Still over 100,000 political prisoners in China today!
Communist China in Tibet killed at least 800 000 since 1953, 15% of the ethnic Tibetan population (by execution, and as a result of starvation).
“Lest we forget”!
