Central North Island Young Nationals Regional Chairman Jason Belworthy has raised serious questions over a new food
standards regime to become law in New Zealand later this year.

"This Country prides itself on the quality of it's food products. The last thing we need here is some new third world
standard where any Tom, Dick or Harry could set up a second rate ice cream factory using third rate chicken and
vegetable fat, and in the process ruining the reputation of New Zealands Ice Cream industry".
"We need to set our sights and standards high in this country. I challenge the Government to put a stop to the
introduction of this legislation at once", concluded Mr Belworthy
